The NYMIA was conceived and created by the ARC, a New York based not-for-profit. With over two million recordings, ARC is the largest collection of popular music in the world.
New York State Music Fund
The primary funding of the NYMIA is through a grant by the New York State Music Fund. This fund was created through a settlement with the recording industry over unfair competitive practices.
Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors
The New York State Music Fund and the awarding of grants is administered by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
Columbia University
Web hosting, server space, digital storage facilities and partial funding for the NYMIA is provided by Columbia University.
